Cheapest groceries in Saudi Arabia with weekly flyers

SupermarketSaudi ArabiaLast checked

The short answer

Saudi Arabia has big grocery chains with their own flyers and apps, including Othaim, Panda, Tamimi, LuLu and Carrefour. Compare the price per kilo or litre in two or three of them, and check the city and branch on each flyer.

Quick facts

Chains to compare in Saudi Arabia

A 2024 US Department of Agriculture retail report on Saudi Arabia names Lulu Hypermarket, Carrefour, Othaim, Panda, Tamimi, Farm and BinDawood among the retailers. It does not rank them by size, so we do not either.

The MAF Carrefour app is in English and Arabic. The LuLu Hypermarket app also has delivery. Other chains have their own apps, so check them directly.

Where to find flyers

Each chain posts its own offers on its site or app, and aggregator pages collect them. A WowDeals page lists a Special Savings Offers catalogue from Abdullah AlOthaim Markets that ran until 6 October. Flyers differ by city, so pick the one for Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or your own area.

Check the end date every time. A flyer from last week can still be in a search result.

How to compare unit prices

The headline price on a flyer is for the pack, and packs come in different sizes. The fair way to compare is the price per kilo, per litre or per 100 grams. Many shelf labels print the unit price in small type. If not, work it out yourself.

For example, 10 kg of rice at SAR 62 is SAR 6.20 per kg, and a 5 kg bag at SAR 34 is SAR 6.80 per kg. The big bag is cheaper per kilo. These numbers are an illustration, not current prices.

  1. Find the pack price and the pack size on the flyer.
  2. Convert the size to one unit: kilos, litres, or 100 g for small items.
  3. Divide the price by the size.
  4. Do the same for the other chain, or the other brand.
  5. Check the dates and whether the price needs a membership card.
  6. Pick the lowest unit price that you will actually finish before it expires.

Rewards and cards

Bank card offers on groceries depend on your bank and often have a minimum spend and a monthly cap. Read the terms before you plan around a card.

Practical tips

  • Check the city on the flyer before you read the prices.
  • Use the chain app to see member prices and delivery fees.
  • Look at the flyer end date and any limit per customer.
  • Buy staples in bigger packs only if the unit price is lower and you will use them.
  • Compare a delivered basket with a shelf basket, including the delivery fee.
  • Keep the last receipt to compare the next week's prices.

How Fawz helps

Fawz is not released yet, and you can join the waiting list. When it is out, it compares supermarket flyer prices, so you see where an item is cheapest without opening six flyers.

At the till, Fawz suggests which of your cards or memberships to use. It also tracks minimum monthly spend and caps, so your grocery shop helps you reach the higher cashback rate. It never stores card numbers or bank logins and never reads SMS.
